Travis Kalanick is officially back and shouting from the mountaintops. ATOMS, fka City Storage Systems and the parent company of food tech subsidiaries like CloudKitchens, Otter, and Lab37 announced a $1.7 billion equity investment led by a16z. As part of the deal, Ben Horowitz joins the board as its food, mining, transport and other businesses consolidate into a single equity structure. TK describes the deal as “unfinished business”: the completion of a 16-year arc from digitizing transportation at Uber, to manufacturing and real estate at CloudKitchens, to building “computers for the physical world” across multiple industrial sectors.
