What DoorDash’s New 1p & 3p In-Store Loyalty Platform Means For The Future Of Restaurants

In May, DoorDash announced the acquisition of first-party restaurant reservations platform SevenRooms with the intention of breaking inside the four walls of its merchants. Around that same time, it began quietly testing a new feature in New Zealand aimed at driving “butts into seats” of merchants’ dining rooms called Going Out. Over this past summer, it launched this in San Francisco and Los Angeles, taking inspiration from Blackbird Labs’ NFC check-in tiles. As the marketplace tries to build a comprehensive first and third-party (1p & 3p) Commerce Platform across delivery, pick-up, and dine-in channels, it is also aiming to build loyalty programs and promotions aimed at driving more in-store traffic for merchants.
