Coffee and technology have long been inextricably linked, from Bialetti’s invention of the Moka pot in 1933 to Sightglass Coffee’s first Square transaction via a headphone jack reader in 2010. Over the past few years, Santa Cruz, CA-based Verve Coffee Roasters has been an early adopter of single serve pourover and instant coffee solutions through partnerships with startups like Dripkit and SWIFT. Last year, it entered the hardware space with the launch of Dwell Dripper, a bottomless brewer for single serve pourovers designed for the prosumer market. This week, HNGRY sat down with Verve’s Senior Green Coffee Buyer Kylee Clancy to understand the roaster’s motivation for getting into the space, analyzing what it means to be a modern coffee brand in the omnichannel age.
